Don't ignore a transmission fluid leak, this fluid is nessesary to cool and lubricate the cars transmission. As the fluid is leaked, the transmission is unable to cool itself, and can cause damage to the transmission, requiring major repairs in the future. Adding fluid will not fix the problem and can allow fluids to contaminate the transmission, eventually leading to major repairs.
A transmission is designed to more smoothly in and out of gears. A slipping transmission is a sure sign that something is wrong. If the transmission is slipping into or out of gear, something is wrong with the external or internal parts of the transmission. External components can often be adjusted or replaced as part of a minor repair. Low fluid levels could also cause this problem. If the transmission will not go into gear, there is clearly a problem with the transmission or clutch. Various components of the transmission or clutch system could be malfunctioning. If parts of the transmission have been damaged, an internal inspection and repair will need to be done.
If you hear noise from the transmission, please have this problem looked at immediately. A transmission should make as little noise as possible when operating normally. Sometimes this problem can be resolved with a simple adjustment, but if there is damage being done, delaying its service will only make matters worse.
When the transmission has failed, it will need to be towed in order to service it.
Some things that can cause failure are overheating, leaking fluids, excessive stress related to driving conditions such as towing, or hot weather may play a factor.
Transmissions are complex and differ according to make and model.
Allow Mission Viejo's qualified transmission experts to diagnose the problem and give you a clear answer on what your options are.
